The Return of Affordable Toys
The Return of Affordable Toys
Children learn remarkably quickly. They are excellent observers of their external environment and are rapidly able to make adjustments based on what they see. Over these past few years children were not immune to the fact that financially things were quite frothy. They could see this based on their parent’s spending habits and their friend’s spending habits and so they knew money was in plentiful supply. May not money – but at least they knew they could get anything they asked for. This was reflected in remarkably extravagant and expensive toys and children absolutely expected the latest and greatest cool toys would be sitting under the Christmas tree or presented to them on birthdays. They would get down right irate if this was not the case. This is now working in reverse though. Children are observing that finances are tight and sacrifices are being made. They understand that money for frivolous toys is no longer available and that they have to settle for much simpler gifts. This is clearly reflected in the popular kid toys now going on sale. Low priced toys of old such as hackey sacks are coming back in favor. Children most certainly do not want to have to go without gifts and toys and so they’ve learned by lowered their expectations and asking for less they will have a better shot of getting something.
